Ethiopia Migration Programme Monitoring

MASAE supported the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in monitoring its four-year migration programme in Ethiopia. The initiative aimed to address the challenges of irregular migration by providing stakeholders with a unified platform for tracking activities and outcomes.

Why This Matters

Irregular migration presents significant social and economic challenges for Ethiopia and the wider region. Effective monitoring is essential for coordinating interventions, measuring progress, and ensuring that support reaches those who need it most.

Our Approach

  • Data Science and Dashboards:
Developed interactive dashboards to visualise programme activities and outcomes, enabling real-time tracking for partners and stakeholders.

  • Strategic Advisory:
Provided guidance on integrating diverse data sources and aligning monitoring efforts across multiple organisations.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:
Facilitated collaboration among programme partners to ensure data-driven decision-making.

Results and Impact

The monitoring system enhanced transparency, improved coordination, and provided FCDO and its partners with the insights needed to adapt and strengthen migration interventions in Ethiopia.

MASAE collaborated with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and partners to develop web platforms targeting cash-in/cash-out (CICO) agents in underserved regions. The project focused on identifying and addressing “white spots”—areas with no CICO agents—in countries including Congo, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, and Malawi.
