BMGF CICO Platforms

MASAE collaborated with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and partners to develop web platforms targeting cash-in/cash-out (CICO) agents in underserved regions. The project focused on identifying and addressing “white spots”—areas with no CICO agents—in countries including Congo, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, and Malawi.

Why This Matters

Access to financial services is a cornerstone of economic development. In many regions, entire communities remain excluded due to the absence of basic banking infrastructure. Identifying these gaps enables targeted interventions to promote financial inclusion and economic opportunity.

Our Approach

  • Web Platform Development:
Built user-friendly platforms to map and monitor CICO agent locations across multiple countries.

  • White Spot Identification:
Developed tools to pinpoint underserved areas, guiding stakeholders to expand financial access where it is needed most.

  • Collaborative Implementation:
Worked with a consortium of partners to ensure local relevance and scalability.

Results and Impact

The platforms have empowered financial service providers and policymakers to bridge gaps in financial access, supporting inclusive growth and improved livelihoods in diverse regions.
