Customer Segmentation for a Leading Iraqi Mobile Operator

MASAE was commissioned by a leading Iraqi mobile operator to deliver a comprehensive customer segmentation analysis. The goal was to better understand user behaviour and optimise marketing strategies using advanced data science techniques.

Why This Matters

Mobile operators operate in highly competitive markets, where understanding customer needs and preferences is crucial for growth. Segmentation enables targeted offers, improved customer experience, and increased retention.

Our Approach

  • Data Science and Ground Truthing:
Analysed mobile usage data and population-based survey results to identify distinct customer segments.

  • Clustering Techniques:
Applied advanced clustering algorithms to group users by behaviour, preferences, and demographics.

  • Actionable Insights:
Provided recommendations to tailor marketing campaigns and product offerings for each segment.

Results and Impact

The project empowered the operator to deliver more relevant services, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive business growth through data-driven decision-making.

MASAE collaborated with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and partners to develop web platforms targeting cash-in/cash-out (CICO) agents in underserved regions. The project focused on identifying and addressing “white spots”—areas with no CICO agents—in countries including Congo, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, and Malawi.
