Africa Regional Climate and Nature Programme (ARCAN) Dashboard

MASAE supported the Africa Regional Climate and Nature Programme (ARCAN), a transformative initiative addressing interconnected climate, ecological, and socio-economic challenges across Africa. At the heart of this effort is a custom dashboard designed to synthesise and visualise critical data, empowering stakeholders to track progress and make informed decisions at continental scale.

Why This Matters

Africa faces a uniquely complex set of challenges: shifting climate zones, economic inequality, gender disparities, and environmental vulnerability often overlap in ways that demand coordinated action. ARCAN’s success depends on clear, accessible insights to navigate these “wicked problems” and drive meaningful change across 54 nations.

Our Approach

MASAE developed a tailored solution to streamline ARCAN’s data ecosystem:

  • Program-Wide Insights Dashboard:
A centralised platform to visualise progress against ARCAN’s goals, organised by programme pillars (e.g., climate resilience, biodiversity, gender equity) and partner contributions.

  • Implementing Partner Integration:
Aggregated data from ARCAN’s network of partners into actionable metrics, while maintaining clear boundaries between programme-level and project-specific data.

  • Future-Ready Design:
Built flexibility to incorporate external links to downstream partner reports when available, ensuring scalability as the programme evolves.

Results and Impact

The dashboard enables ARCAN stakeholders to:

  • Track Progress Holistically:
Monitor continent-wide trends and regional variations in climate adaptation and nature conservation efforts.

  • Identify Synergies and Gaps:
Uncover connections between socio-economic factors (e.g., poverty, gender inequality) and environmental outcomes.

  • Support Adaptive Decision-Making:
Use real-time data to adjust strategies in response to climatic variability and emerging challenges.
