Sahel Alliance Open Data Portal

In 2018, MASAE Analytics was commissioned by AFD to build the Sahel Alliance Open Data Portal—a comprehensive database and dashboard for managing project portfolios and results data. The platform was designed to support more than 500 projects, representing a budget of nearly €1.8 billion, and to provide stakeholders with transparent, accessible information on development activities across the Sahel region.

Why This Matters

The Sahel faces complex development challenges requiring coordinated action and robust monitoring. By centralising project data and making it accessible, the Open Data Portal empowers decision-makers, partners, and the public to track progress, identify gaps, and maximise the impact of investments in the region.

Our Approach

  • Data Science and Platform Development:
Built a secure, scalable online database and dashboard to store, manage, and visualise project data.

  • User-Centred Design:
Ensured the platform was intuitive and accessible for a wide range of users, from policymakers to the general public.

  • Comprehensive Coverage:
Integrated data from more than 500 projects, supporting cross-sector analysis and reporting.

Results and Impact

The portal has improved transparency, facilitated coordination among partners, and strengthened accountability for development outcomes in the Sahel.

In 2017, MASAE Analytics, in partnership with Altai, was contracted by UNDP to operationalise the Fragility Index Maturation Model in Jubaland, Somalia. The goal was to model how macro-economic parameters influence socio-economic outcomes and to quantify the impact of interventions in fragile contexts.
