Child Centred Risk Assessment (CCRA) and Climate Change Vulnerability Analysis (CCVA)

UNICEF Mozambique commissioned MASAE in 2022 to conduct a Child Centred Risk Assessment (CCRA) alongside a Climate Change Vulnerability Analysis (CCVA). The project aimed to map the risks and vulnerabilities faced by children, including those linked to climate change, and to provide actionable recommendations for minimising impact and mitigating risks.

Why This Matters

Children in Mozambique are disproportionately affected by natural hazards and climate change. Understanding these risks—especially for girls, children with disabilities, and other marginalised groups—is essential for designing effective, inclusive interventions that protect children’s rights and wellbeing.

Our Approach

  • Comprehensive Mapping:
Analysed and mapped exposure, hazards, vulnerability, and capacity of children across Mozambique.

  • Gender and Inclusion Analysis:
Assessed how risks and impacts vary by gender and inclusion factors.

  • Actionable Recommendations:
Provided guidance for UNICEF and partners to strengthen resilience and target support where it is needed most.

Results and Impact

The assessment has enabled UNICEF to better target its programmes, advocate for policy change, and increase the resilience of social and basic services for children.
